The real reason WWE had Becky Lynch beat Bianca Belair in a matter of seconds at SummerSlam this past Saturday has been revealed.
Many people saw it as a burial of Belair after all the hard work she’s put in as champion the last few months (and before that), but apparently that wasn’t WWE’s intention.
As per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea was that it would get sympathy on Belair and thus result in her being a bigger babyface. It’s been said previously that WWE does have plans to further elevate Belair, so this would tie in with that.
The similarity many people drew was to Brock Lesnar beating Kofi Kingston, but the intention for that was not to get people behind Kingston but to put over Lesnar big – the philosophy was different this time around.
Becky Lynch will be a heel going forward, which is something she requested and, according to some, is something she wanted to do because she’s seen the success Roman Reigns has had with it.
Lynch will be on SmackDown tonight, and we’re sure to get a rematch between the two which should be a match of proper substance like most people were hoping for at SummerSlam.
