Tonight’s episode of WWE Raw could play host to a shock WWE Title change, with Bobby Lashley defending against Randy Orton.
The match had originally been announced for the September 26 Extreme Rules pay-per-view, but was brought forward, reportedly in reaction to last week’s AEW Dynamite beating Raw in the key 18-49 demographic of viewers.
If WWE really wants to try to make things interesting, there could be a big title change on tonight’s show.
On SmackDown this past Friday, Big E, who won Money in the Bank in June, teased that he was going to be on Raw and could cash in the Money in the Bank contract to win the WWE Championship.
There were reports in recent months that WWE had been planning on moving Big E to Raw to reunite with the rest of New Day, so if he cashes in and becomes champion, that could kill two birds with one stone.
Even if E doesn’t cash in, there’s always a chance Vince McMahon goes back to Randy Orton, who he knows he can trust and often diverts back to when he’s under pressure.
After Bobby Lashley beat Goldberg at SummerSlam and attacked Goldberg’s son Gage, there was a Goldberg promo on the following Raw during which he said he wanted a rematch with Lashley, but didn’t care about WWE Championship anymore, because it was personal.
WWE could definitely still pull off that rematch, likely in Saudi Arabia next month, without the title, if Lashley was to lose it before then.
So, will WWE pull out something big tonight in the form of a surprise title change? WrestleTalk.com will have live coverage of the show so stay tuned to find out.
