The latest update regarding the Charlotte Flair ordeal that started at SmackDown two weeks ago has come to light.
The incident took place during the “title exchange” segment with Becky Lynch, during which Charlotte Flair dropped a title belt on the ground instead of handing it to Lynch, which resulted in a big argument between them backstage.
In today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported what he was told as to why WWE may not punish Flair for what happened, which was:
“Charlotte is a tricky situation. Not just because she’s a star in a division with very few stars. But because she’s not the only guilty party. Discipline her and you have to discipline quite a few people.”
Flair had been vocal about not wanting the segment to diminish her star power or her championship reign by simply handing the belt over to Lynch.
It had also been reported that Flair had pitched to drop the title clean to Bianca Belair a few days earlier, but instead WWE decided to end the match in a disqualification so Flair retained and then had to go ahead with the title swap segment.
