Bron Breakker’s rise from signee to NXT Champion has been nothing short of meteoric as he reflects on the last year and being on the ground floor of NXT 2.0.
He may have just captured his first gold with the NXT Championship, defeating Ciampa at New Year’s Evil but Breakker is no stranger to professional sports, having been released by the Baltimore Ravens during training camp cuts in August 2020.
Speaking to Sporting News on the transition from NXT to NXT 2.0, Breakker credits his time in football for his adaptability, saying:
“I just showed up to work every day and wanted to be a good soldier. I treated it like football and other sports that I was in prior to wrestling. When you show up to the building, you have to be coachable and do what you’re told. You have to be a good person and be a good representation of your team. So that’s just all I was doing when I got the call. All I’m doing now is wanting to be a great ambassador and representative of WWE.”
With the call to sign with WWE coming this time last year and his first appearance on WWE screens occurring in May at Backlash as one of the zombie lumberjacks in the Miz vs Damian Priest match, Bron notes that the past year has been surreal, saying:
“It’s the greatest time of my life! This is a dream come true.
“I’m becoming more and more comfortable as a sports entertainer. I think I’m kind of getting in the groove and kind of figuring it out. I’m just kind of getting a grasp on things. Every time I step out there, I want to be more comfortable. I want to show that I belong. It’s been so much fun, it’s been surreal. It’s such an honor to work for WWE and be a part of NXT and all the great things that we have going on. You know, it’s unbelievable.”
NXT 2.0 continues to move forward with crafting a brand unique from the previous black and gold iteration which some have noted was symbolically represented by Bron Breakker’s entrance at New Year’s Evil where he smashed through the former X logo on his way to the ring.
