WWE and its partnership with Saudi Arabia to put on “large scale international events” has come a long way since it began including having multiple women’s matches on the card for Elimination Chamber.
According to a report from PWInsider, a number of people within the company were pleased with the women’s ring gear, writing:
“A number of people in the company marveled today about how far the company has come in terms of how women are presented on the shows in Saudi Arabia, going from one bout with women wearing oversized t-shirts to multiple women’s bouts with colorful ring gear that still respected local laws.”
In an exclusive interview with WrestleTalk’s Luke Owen, women’s Elimination Chamber winner Bianca Belair described creating her own ring gear including hand sewing, saying:
“I make all my gear. I make my gear with the intention to only wear it once for my big moment, so every time I look at it, it has significance to it. I made my gear (for Elimination Chamber), I finished it, my sewing machine stopped working in the middle of it so I had to do most of it by hand, so my thumbs are a little raw right now.
I think it came out okay, I would have liked to do more, but it has a lot of spizzaz, glitter and shine to it so hopefully that comes off on camera.”
While past iterations of WWE events held in Saudi Arabia saw the women seemingly wearing their normal gear just with very large shirts over the top, Elimination Chamber saw all the women wearing clothing that adequately covered the ladies’ from having exposed skin while also fitting their characters and style.
