AEW’s Jon Moxley has challenged NJPW veteran Hiroshi Tanahashi to a match at the upcoming Capital Collision event.
In the main event of Saturday’s NJPW Windy City Riot show, Moxley defeated Will Ospreay after 21 minutes of brutal action.
Following the bout, Moxley showed appreciation to Ospreay for the hard-fought battle, before calling out Hiroshi Tanahashi.
Moxley stated that he will fight Tanahashi in Washington DC on May 15, even if he has to drag the legend there.
Stealing Tanahashi’s moniker, Moxley then claimed to be the new Ace of New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Tanahashi and Moxley had previously teased a match last summer, that ultimately never came to fruition.
There is a chance that Tanahashi could walk into NJPW Capital Collision as IWGP US Champion, with the star set to do battle with Will Ospreay for the gold at Wrestling Dontaku on May 1.
Moxley is notably the longest-reigning IWGP US Champion in history, holding the gold for 564 days, from January 2020 to July 2021.
