NXT has undergone a rather polarising change since the debut of NXT 2.0 last September, with many of the stars from the black and gold era of the show departing the brand, either for the main roster or AEW.
The NXT brand grew into a ‘WWE indie’ of sorts, thanks to stellar TakeOver events and performances from the roster. One name who was a key part of early NXT was Tyson Kidd (TJ Wilson), who wrestled on the brand in 2014.
Wilson recently spoke to the Dropkick Podcast, where he discussed the show’s transition to NXT 2.0. TJ spoke about how the show has gone back to being a developmental, but claimed that it used to be ‘awesome’ as a super indie.
He said:
“I guess where people don’t like the change is that now NXT feels like it’s gone back to being developmental. It’s still its own brand but it has more of a developmental feel [as compared] to a couple of years ago where it was a super-indie with WWE production. It was awesome.”
Wilson has become a seasoned WWE producer since his sudden retirement in 2015, particularly named as a help to the women’s division.
