The United States Championship was arguably the top focus on this week’s episode of WWE Raw, with Ciampa beating Dolph Ziggler and Chad Gable in a three-way, and later AJ Styles to earn a shot at Bobby Lashley’s title on next week’s show.
Many have speculated that the United States Championship will be a top priority for Triple H and the new WWE regime, which naturally brings in speculation of the return of the United States Open Challenges that John Cena held back in 2015.
Lashley spoke about the potential of bringing back United States Championship open challenges on the Masked Man Show, where he admitted that he’s always open for challenges, but doesn’t think that he’ll hold them in the traditional way.
He said:
“I don’t really think we do that anymore. I think Vince — I think we’re going away with the open challenges. I think everybody is aware that I’m open for challenges, but I don’t think we’re going to go out there and say, ‘Oh, I’m holding an open challenge,’ and we’re gonna go, ‘Oh my God, somebody is coming out.’ I don’t think we need that.”
Lashley is set to defend his championship against Ciampa on tomorrow night’s episode of WWE Raw in Cleveland.
