The ongoing tournament for the vacant WWE Women’s Tag Team tournament has been a key focus of WWE television in recent weeks.
The tournament kicked off on last week’s show, when IYO SKY and Dakota Kai defeated Dana Brooke and Tamina in the opening match of the tournament. The second match of the tournament took place on SmackDown, when the duo of Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah defeated Shotzi and Xia Li to advance.
The third match of the tournament took place in the opening match of tonight’s Raw, when Asuka and Alexa Bliss took on Nikki A.S.H and Doudrop. Asuka and Alexa were victorious in the bout, seeing them advance to a match against Dakota and IYO in the semi-finals.
The final first round match of the tournament is set for this week’s SmackDown, and sees Natalya and Sonya Deville team up to take on NXT 2.0’s Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark.
Asuka and Alexa Bliss are set to team with Raw Women’s Champion Dakota Kai against Bayley, IYO SKY and Dakota Kai at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff on September 3.
