SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan has addressed the negative fan reception to her title defence against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam.
The fans were behind Liv Morgan when she pinned Rousey for the gold after cashing in her Money in the Bank contract at the Money in the Bank premium live event.
WWE audiences began to sour on Morgan following her title retention at SummerSlam. The final moments of the match were controversial, with Morgan scoring a pinfall victory over Rousey while the former UFC star had the current champion trapped in an armbar.
Despite being presented as a babyface, Morgan received boos and jeers of ‘you tapped out’ from crowds following the July 30 event.
Speaking with Gorilla Position, Morgan admitted that she wasn’t surprised by this change in reaction, noting:
“No, it didn’t surprise me, I kind of weirdly anticipated it. But, in the same time, it kind of made me feel like I had a little bit of an edge because at the end of the day, the referee’s decision is final and I’m still SmackDown Women’s Champion.”
Rousey hasn’t wrestled on WWE TV since losing to Morgan at SummerSlam, but has appeared in segments on SmackDown. She recently shared her thoughts on her booking.
Morgan most recently defended her SmackDown Women’s Title against Shayna Baszler at WWE Clash At The Castle.
