Jonathan Gresham Title Match Added To NJPW Rumble on 44th Street NJPW

Former ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham will challenge for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship at NJPW Rumble on 44th Street.

The match was made official following Gresham’s appearance at the October 27 NJPW Night Before Rumble on 44th Street event.

During this show, Fred Rosser, defended his NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship against the debuting Crowbar. Following his win, Rosser simply asked “Who’s next?”

Jonathan Gresham answered the call by making his way to the ring and issuing a challenge for Rosser at Rumble on 44th Street on Friday, October 28.

The confirmed line-up for the Rumble on 44th Street is as follows:

  •  Fred Rosser (c) vs. Jonathan Gresham – NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship
  • Jay White & Juice Robinson vs. Kazuchika Okada & Eddie Kingston
  • Aussie Open (c) vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Kevin Knight & The DKC – NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Championship
  • New York City Street Fight: Shingo Takagi vs. El Phantasmo – KOPW 2022 Trophy
  • Mayu Iwatani (c) vs. KiLynn King – SWA World Championship
  • Rocky Romero & YOH vs. Yujiro Takahashi & SHO
  • Minoru Suzuki vs. Clark Connors
  • Shota Umino, Homicide, and Wheeler Yuta vs. Tom Lawlor, Jorel Nelson, and Royce Isaacs
  • Kylie Rae and Tiara James vs. Waka Tsukiyama and Mina Shirakawa – kickoff

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley also made an appearance on the October 27 show, notably facing off against IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, Jay White in the concluding moments of an eventful 12-man elimination tag match. You can read more about this right here.

Jonathan Gresham was formerly the ROH World Champion, having lost the title to Claudio Castagnoli at ROH Death Before Dishonor on July 23.

It was previously reported that Gresham asked for his release from his ROH/AEW contract prior to his title loss.
