A top NXT star has discussed their relationship with Shawn Michaels.
Since signing with WWE in 2021, Carmelo Hayes has quickly become one of the breakout talents for the NXT brand.
The two-time North American Champion has established himself as a top star for WWE’s developmental brand and has developed a relationship with NXT head honcho Shawn Michaels.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp spoke with Hayes ahead of this Saturday’s NXT Deadline event and asked about Michaels growing a liking for him.
Melo stated that it was the ultimate compliment and noted what kind of mentor Michaels was to him.
Hayes mentioned that Michaels has to rein him in sometimes on things, and is a “do as I say, not as I did” teacher, because HBK made his name off defying authority.
Carmelo noted that Shawn Michaels usually has to rein him on cultural stuff that Hayes would need to explain to him due to the generation gap.
Michaels’ experiences in his DX days helps make him well aware that younger talent will try to do that to him like he has done in the past.
Carmelo Hayes will be one of five men in the first ever Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge at NXT Deadline this Saturday, December 10.
Joining Melo will be Grayson Waller, Joe Gacy, JD McDonagh and Axiom. Meanwhile, the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge will consist of Cora Jade, Roxanne Perez, Zoey Stark, Kiana James and Indi Hartwell.
