A WWE Hall of Famer has addressed his problems with The Kliq.
After a brief stint in WCW and around various promotions, Jake Roberts returned to WWE in 1996 and found himself in a different backstage atmosphere.
Upon his return, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Diesel, Sean “1-2-3 Kid” Waltman and Hunter Hearst Helmsley, better known as The Kliq, were running things in the locker room.
During the latest episode of “The Snake Pit”, Jake “The Snake” Robert detailed his issues with The Kliq.
After noting that he was a good friend with Scott Hall, Roberts expressed his belief that the other members like Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash were abusing their power behind the scenes. He stated:
“I didn’t fit in. I wasn’t part of The Kliq. I’ve never been a cliquey guy, man. I don’t believe in cliques. I think they’re wrong, I think they’re wrong for the business.”
“Friendship is one thing, but when you start trying to run a company by your influence and forcing people to do things that they don’t want done because you have the power, it’s not good.”
Discussing why he believes it was a misstep on Vince McMahon’s part to allow The Kliq to gain so much power within the company, Roberts recalled having a booking meeting where McMahon was trying to convince Michaels and Bret Hart to put their differences aside and have a match.
Reflecting on his reaction when he first found out about the phone call, Jake said:
“When I first heard about that, I said, ‘Vince, fire both of them motherf***ers. Fire both, man. They’re not helping your f***ing company. They’re jacking your company off. They’re playing you.’ Are you kidding me?”
