Update On Kenny Omega’s Health

Kenny Omega has provided an update on his health following a year of surgeries and rehabbing (not to mention a suspension) from AEW.

It had previously been reported that Kenny Omega would under ‘multiple’ surgeries, primarily on his shoulders which have been an issue for some time, but also to his knees, abdominals and a hernia.

In addition to this, Omega had reported he had been wrestling with vertigo for three years.

It was hoped that Omega would return in February 2022, but Omega would eventually return in August but would be suspended following the backstage incident at AEW All Out in September 2022.

He would return in November 2022 at AEW Full Gear, heading straight into a Best-of-Seven Series between The Elite (Omega and The Young Bucks) and Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix).

January would be a high-profile start to the year for Omega with his match against Will Ospreay at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 seeing Omega capture the IWGP United States Championship before he would team with Kazuchika Okada at NJPW New Year Dash and win the AEW Trios Championship in a ladder match on the January 11 episode of AEW Dynamite to bring the Best-of-Seven to a close.

Since January 11, Omega hasn’t wrestled.

In an exclusive interview with ComicBook, Omega discussed his mindset at the start of 2023 and how it shifted following his matches, saying:

“I would say before the Best of Seven series and the Tokyo Dome I was feeling pretty good.

“And after completing the Best of Seven Series, which culminated in a Ladder Match, and barely being removed from the match that I did with Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom, it was kind of a slap in the face from reality being like, ‘Hey, don’t go thinking you’re 100% again. We just let you think that for a couple of weeks (laughs). This is your new 100% so get used to it, kid.’

“That was the crashing back down to reality moment for me.”

Whilst the matches were critically well received and drew plenty of attention around the globe, Omega has since turned his attention back to his own well-being, concluding:

“Like, okay, I did it. I survived. I’m really proud of this work, but oh boy, it’s going to take a while to recover.

“It wasn’t like a ‘give me a 24-hour’ kind of thing. It’s been over a week and I’m still feeling it.”

Shortly after the match at Wrestle Kingdom 17, Dave Meltzer reported that Ospreay and Omega had “held back on a lot of what they could do” with the suggestion that they would continue to feud in the future.
