A look at Paul Levesque’s biggest decision in charge of WWE creative so far at Elimination Chamber with Sami Zayn vs Roman Reigns.
It’s decision time and there may be potential for a last-minute change in plans, so let’s take a look…
Will Sami Zayn Beat Roman Reigns At WWE Elimination Chamber 2023?
In what could be described as the biggest WWE match in years, Roman Reigns defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Sami Zayn in Zayn’s hometown of Montreal on Saturday, February 18.
Unfortunately though, the result seems like a forgone conclusion.
It feels inevitable that Roman Reigns will break all of our hearts, defeating Sami Zayn and proceeding to defend his championships against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania.
And, in fact, that has been the plan all along, or at least since Zayn got hot. But he wasn’t this hot when that decision was made.
More specifically, as reported by Dave Meltzer, the plan was for Jey Uso to cost Zayn the match (the Usos are both reportedly able to get into Canada), which would then set up the Usos defending the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against Zayn and Kevin Owens at WrestleMania.
Which is… fine. But for many fans, the satisfying conclusion here is Zayn getting the ultimate revenge on Reigns, not on the Usos.
So the big question is, will Paul Levesque (Triple H) make a last-minute call to deviate from the script, or stick to the plan?
Will Triple H Change Plans For Elimination Chamber?
Historically, Vince McMahon would generally react and give fans what they wanted due to it being WrestleMania, but he would never actually follow through with making those fan favorites – namely Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston – the actual top stars of the company, even though they were given the token moment of becoming champion.
As fans, if Levesque doesn’t change things up, do we trust him? Levesque has had some successes, mainly this exact storyline with the Bloodline, and obviously has a lot more goodwill than Vince McMahon did, but that’s mainly from people reminiscing about NXT.
Levesque’s had some failures too though, most notably the handling of a lot of the names he’s brought back into the company, like Karrion Kross, Hit Row, Candice LeRae and Johnny Gargano.
Elimination Chamber could tell us so much, but also so little. It feels like the only option is to let things play out, even if it’s not the conclusion we’re all looking for on the night. Not because we trust Levesque yet, but to find out if we SHOULD trust him.
I stand by what I’d written in a previous article a couple of days ago – if you don’t want to put the title on Zayn, at least have him cost Reigns at Mania. That would be enough, but also right now feels like the bare minimum.
