WWE has filed a trademark on the name of a released star.
In January, reports circulated that Matt Cardona had trademarked his WWE name “Zack Ryder”, which fueled speculation that the former Intercontinental Champion was set to return to the company. This followed WWE letting the trademark on the “Zack Ryder” name lapse.
A few days later, Cardona revealed that WWE fought his attempt to trademark the ring name and he was letting it go as a result.
According to a USPTO filing, WWE has officially trademarked the Zack Ryder name once again.
This may be an indication that the company is simply trying to protect their intellectual property or possibly preparing for Cardona’s return to the company.
Cardona’s real life wife Chelsea Green recently returned to WWE at Royal Rumble 2023 in January and has become a weekly character on the Raw brand.
It remains to be seen if Matt Cardona will join his wife back in the promotion and if so, whether it will be under his real name or the Ryder ring name.
