Sol Ruca has shared her true feelings about Becky Lynch, revealing she was “honored to be in the ring” with the star at WWE Clash in Italy.

Following weeks of antagonism, Becky Lynch finally faced Sol Ruca at WWE Clash in Italy on May 31, losing the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to the recently called-up star.

Speaking on the WWE Clash in Italy Recap show, Ruca was asked if the victory was sweeter because it was against Lynch, with the star stating:

“Oh absolutely. She pretty much founded what we see today with women’s wrestling, and she is absolutely incredible, and I totally get her perspective of these newcomers coming in and getting these opportunities when she’s been doing this and been putting in the work and whatnot.

“But times are changing with how NXT is bringing up people, and she is one of the greatest, I’m honored to be in the ring with her.

“I have no hard feelings towards her. I know she was a bit hostile towards me, but I get it, she’s got her own perspective, and that’s totally fine.

“But at the end of the day, I came out victorious, and I’m thankful that she even agreed to have this match with me. Somewhat agreed, there was a bit of pushback from her, but essentially, we got the match, and I’m thankful for that.”

The hostility saw Lynch declare that Ruca was not ready to face her, having lost all of her WWE Raw matches since being called up to the main roster.

Since the loss, Lynch has gone on to blame Ruca’s footwear and the actions of referee Jessika Carr for being factors in her latest title defeat.

Ruca now heads to the Queen of the Ring Tournament, with her first round match seeing her compete against Lyra Valkyria, Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill.

The Upstart Becomes The Institution

Signed to her first WWE contract in 2013, Becky Lynch would become a name that is synonymous with the birth of the Women’s Revolution, making her main roster debut alongside Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks at a time when the Divas division still existed.

From that moment, the women’s division was reborn, arguably seeing NXT-style matches on the main roster, as opposed to what had passed for some of the less representative moments of the Divas era.

The Miz would note the limited screen time that women wrestlers had to get their characters and in-ring ability over during the Divas era, particularly commenting on the work of Maryse. It took time, but the Women’s Revolution led to longer matches and more opportunities for the roster, a strategy that largely continues to this day, more than ten years later.

Lynch recently encouraged unsigned female stars to explore international bookings, noting that American is “not the be all end all“, noting the changing state of the wrestling world for the current generation.

Lynch, Flair and Sasha Banks (now better known as Mercedes Mone in AEW) may have been the upstarts, but they have gone on to be institutions in the business to this day, seeming to value the division over their particular spot on the card.
