10 WWE Underdogs Who Should Challenge For A World Championship

4. Ricochet

When Trevor Mann announced he had signed with WWE in 2018, many fans were nervous about his fate. Historically, WWE doesn’t understand the appeal of acrobatic wrestlers, so many thought his time as a champion competitor was over.

Not only was Ricochet allowed to keep his name, but he retained the same gutsy persona seen around the world. Ricochet’s fire and exceptional offence guided the 17-year veteran to NXT North American and WWE United States Championship success.

Defeating the likes of Matt Hardy, Samoa Joe and Bobby Lashley, Ricochet is battle tested against main event calibre competitors. After the rosters are shaken up by the Draft, we could be welcoming the era of the ‘One and Only’.

3. Shorty G

With his current position on Smackdown, it’s hard to believe Chad Gable is a decorated Olympian.

After reaching the summit of the amateur wrestling world, he transitioned to the squared circle like a duck to water.

Another Performance Center success story, Gable helped revolutionise NXT’s tag division. He only became lost in the shuffle when his American Alpha partner, Jason Jordan, was transferred to Raw.

Gable has had many entertaining solo outings. With bouts against the likes of AJ Styles and Kevin Owens, Shorty G isn’t unfamiliar with facing WWE’s biggest stars.

As a singles wrestler, Gable performs best when he’s the underdog. A championship match would be a great opportunity for him to show why he’s such a decorated athlete.
