Cody Rhodes Marvel Studios Debut

A recent photo shared by Cody Rhodes on Instagram Stories featured the WWE star at Marvel Studios for undisclosed reasons.

While it could have just been an innocuous visit to the home of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, speculation has been that the star could be negotiating a role in an upcoming movie.

Rhodes is no stranger to the big screen, having had a role in the recent Naked Gun movie and portraying Guile in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter.

When it comes to Rhodes in the MCU, however, there’s plenty of options to choose from.

Cable

With the cast of the first X-Men movie since 2019 now being put together, it’s too early to say whether Cable will feature in the project.

The son of Scott Summers (Cyclops, being portrayed by Kit Connor in the 2028 movie) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey), there’s perhaps a bit too much backstory to fit into the first live-action MCU X-Men movie when it comes to the character from the future.

That said, Josh Brolin portrayed the character in Deadpool 2, with Cable travelling back in time to assassinate a young mutant to prevent a tragedy down the line.

Stryfe

Introduced in the 1990s, Stryfe is a clone of Cable, raised by Apocalypse and leader of the Mutant Liberation Front. Even without that back story in a first appearance, there’s potential in a story focusing, in part, on the MLF and, perhaps, the Legacy Virus that could wipe out mutantkind.

Of course, a clone of Cable could lead to Rhodes in two roles, very much as will be seen with Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, having seen immense success as Iron Man/Tony Stark.

Hyperion

The champion of justice, Hyperion is pretty much Marvel’s answer to Superman, well, one of them, anyway.

Not too much of a stretch from Rhodes’ persona in WWE, Hyperion was a former villian in Squadron Sinister, with his alternate reality version being a member of Squadron Supreme. As is often the case with the many decades of Marvel storytelling, there’s plenty to plot to choose from when it comes to bringing this character to the big screen and the potential for Rhodes to show range.

Mastermind

A new Jean Grey (played by Sadie Sink) likely means that the Phoenix Force will make its presence felt at some point.

Beyond that trope, however, how about bringing Mastermind into the fold, with the character having played a part in manipulating Grey into believing they were married and that she was the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club. Jason Wyngarde is a master manipulator of the highest order, making him a perfect character for a star with the charisma of Rhodes.

There’s also the chance to see him inculcate himself into the orbit of the X-Men before betraying them and destroying everything that they value.

Face Front, True Believers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a wealth of characters to tap into that would be a perfect fit for many WWE stars, not just Cody Rhodes.

Seth Rollins came close, with his character being cut from Captain America: Brave New World, although that doesn’t rule out a return, even in another capacity, down the line.

With no signs that the MCU is shutting up shop any time in the near future, there’s no doubt plenty of roles up for grabs and many stories yet to be realized.
