Kota Ibushi vs. Kenny Omega

Kota Ibushi defeated IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega in an over-the-top, dangerous, and horrifying war that I both wanted to end and never wanted to see it end.
When you see someone complain about how all big WWE matches are so incredibly same-y, look at New Japan to see why they feel that way. The day before, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada had an oh-so-different match from Ibushi-Omega. It was safe, it relied more on bodily psychology, and was deliberately paced to have the 30-minute time limit be the key focus point. Omega and Ibushi nearly killed each other with neck destroying maneuvers and went a million miles an hour. However, both were incredible displays of professional wrestling, and each are easy contenders for match of the tournament, and match of the year.
Really, I can’t do this match justice, as it was clear Omega and Ibushi wanted to defy description and leave it all out in the ring. From top rope Tiger Suplexes, to piledrivers on the ring apron, to that terrifying GIF at the start of this page, everything was in this match.
Kota Ibushi wins the B Block with 12 points and the tiebreaker over Omega. He advances to his first G1 final in his career. He faces Hiroshi Tanahashi on August 12, again from the Budokan.
