Fall of the Valkyrie

I feel sorry for Kiera Hogan and Taya Valkyrie.

We finally got the first real appearance from Tessa Blanchard, and again it was part of a Valkyrie vs. Hogan match. These performers are trying really hard to put themselves at the top of the Knockout’s division, and they are placed in matches where they are the secondary focus.

To some extent, I get it with Kiera Hogan. For Valkyrie, however, there is no excuse. Taya Valkyrie is one of the best female talents in Impact when she is used right.

In the original match, at Redemption, you could tell that neither Hogan or Valkyrie had their heart in the match. It was, simply put, a terrible showing from both performers. Who could blame them? They are being used to introduce someone ‘better’.

This week wasn’t quite so bad as Redemption. The match was far better even though it didn’t really have much time. The interruption kind of worked well. The commentary team seemed to be distracted by other parts of the Knockout’s division, but that is par for the course in Impact.

Tessa interrupted the match to pick a fight with Hogan, for some reason, but Hogan at least attempted to fight back.

Of all the people for Tessa to go after, Kiera seems an odd choice. She lost at Redemption, she’s nowhere near the top of the division, the motivation just doesn’t work for me. It could do wonders for Hogan, as long as the feud isn’t too one-sided, but I struggle to buy in at the moment.

Taya is dead in the water at the moment. She lost last week in a pointless match. She put on a lackluster performance at Redemption. And to top it off, she looked as though she was going to lose this match before it was interrupted. Hopefully, this will lead to something for her, but I’m struggling to believe it will.
