3. Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley seems to be in the best position of his career since returning in 2018, working alongside MVP and the Hurt Business. Even though he came up short, he even took McIntyre to his limits at Backlash for the WWE title. He surely wants another shot at the belt.
This could very well be a rematch with Drew McIntyre but what if we had a heel vs. heel dynamic with Randy Orton?
Orton is certainly the biggest heel on Raw but perhaps the Hurt Business wants to question that. Furthermore, MVP is easily placed in the legend category nowadays. With Orton returning to his “Legend Killer” persona, that makes him a target. Obviously, he would have to go through Bobby Lashley first.
2. Brock Lesnar
There are no signs of Brock Lesnar returning in time for SummerSlam, but what about afterward? He would surely want his title back which would mean either a rematch with Drew McIntyre or Randy Orton.
SummerSlam 2016 saw Lesnar crush Orton with malicious elbows winning by TKO. A rematch between Lesnar and Orton would be spectacular just to see how far Orton would torture Heyman.
Lesnar can also slightly be considered a legend himself. In that aspect, Orton having a match with “The Beast” means he has another legend to slay.
1. Edge
Finally, the most important opponent for the WWE Championship if Randy Orton wins at SummerSlam is definitely Edge.
Edge, unfortunately, suffered a tricep injury during the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” and is expected to be out for at least four months. If that remains hopeful, then obviously the “Rated R Superstar” will be seeking revenge.
It may not happen immediately after the Biggest Party of the Summer but at Hell in a Cell or Survivor Series, this is a possibility.
We are living through the eventful year of 2020 after all. What better way to take our concentration away from all the World problems than seeing the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” again?!
Lastly, this could also be the crowning moment for Edge, with teary fans, he could spear Randy Orton to win the WWE Championship for one more run in his successful career.
Clearly, Orton has lots of potential challengers if he held the golden strap around his waist for a fourteenth time. His match against McIntyre at SummerSlam is going to be quite the spectacle and I can’t wait!
