On the September 11 edition of Friday Night SmackDown and the September 14 Monday Night Raw, WWE will bring their flagship shows to Mexico City.

With this being the first time in over 15 years that either show has taken place in the country, the company has announced a stacked lineup for both episodes.

Considering the major title matches already announced, there could be a number of surprises that will shift the landscape of the entire promotion moving forward.

Here are seven potential surprises for WWE Raw and SmackDown in Mexico City.

Sami Zayn becomes two-time Undisputed WWE Champion against CM Punk

Back on the July 6 edition of Monday Night Raw, CM Punk made his return in his hometown of Chicago to defeat Sami Zayn to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Since this loss, Zayn has been obsessed on getting his rematch for the title after feeling screwed.

This has led to Sami inserting himself into Punk’s title bout against Kevin Owens on the August 21 SmackDown, the Owens vs. Finn Balor vs. GUNTHER number one contender’s match on the August 28 episode and Punk’s match with Johnny Gargano.

This has led to Punk issuing a challenge for Mexico City, which could see Zayn finally recapturing the Undisputed WWE Championship on the September 11 SmackDown.

Ricky Saints pulls off an upset over Rey Fenix to win the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship

Over the past few weeks, Ricky Saints has confronted Rey Fenix in pursuit of a shot at his AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.

Wanting to get his hands on gold, Saints looks to win his first title on the WWE main roster when he challenges Fenix on the September 11 edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

After being away from WWE TV for the past few weeks, Saints feels like a real threat to Fenix’s reign.

While it feels like the luchador could win in his home country, Ricky Saints has what it takes to find a way to walk out of Mexico City with the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship.

Chad Gable goes face-to-face with El Grande Americano for the first time since Mask vs. Mask

Back at AAA Noche de Los Grandes 2026, El Grande Americano defeated The Original El Grande Americano in a Mask vs. Mask Match.

As a result of his loss, The Original El Grande was forced to unmask and reveal himself as Chad Gable.

Since unmasking, Gable has been on a redemption tour that led to him defeating Penta to win the Intercontinental Title at WWE SummerSlam 2026.

Now with his title defense against Dragon Lee on the September 14 WWE Raw, Gable could pick up the win and then being confronted by his rival El Grande Americano, who might just show up as the new AAA Mega Champion.

On the August 14 episode of SmackDown, The MFTs defeated R-Truth and Damian Priest to win the WWE Tag Team Championships.

After this loss, it looked like Priest was set to turn on his friend, but decided to help Truth to his feet.

Now, Truth and Priest look to become champions again when they challenge The War Raiders for the AAA World Tag Team Titles on the September 11 SmackDown.

If they lose once again, it might be the right time for Priest to betray Truth, ending their partnership once and for all.

At WWE Clash In Italy 2026, Rhea Ripley defeated Jade Cargill to retain the WWE Women’s Championship.

During the course of the bout, Ripley suffered a serious torn meniscus injury that has forced her to the sidelines over the past few months.

In the meantime, Chelsea Green went on to defeat Cargill, Charlotte Flair, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend in a Ladder Match to win the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2026.

With Green set to defend the title for the first time against Nia Jax on the September 11 edition of SmackDown, Ripley could return to confront Chelsea and set up a title unification down the line.

Cody Rhodes finally snaps & punts Randy Orton

At WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event, Randy Orton defeated Cody Rhodes.

During the course of the match, “The American Nightmare” looked to be going for a Punt Kick, but he thought otherwise before Orton was able to take advantage of his hesitation.

The conflicted thoughts for Rhodes once again cost him a victory and could lead to him finding it in himself to get revenge on “The Legend Killer.”

On the September 11 SmackDown, Cody Rhodes could show up to finally snap and deliver that Punt Kick to Orton in Mexico City.

Penta defeats Roman Reigns to win the World Heavyweight Championship thanks to 946

The biggest match announced for the upcoming September 14 episode of WWE Raw will see Roman Reigns defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta.

With this highly anticipated showdown, Reigns will have to be focused on his challenger, but The Bloodline is dealing with a lot of outside factors right now.

While they have been feuding with LA Knight and Solo Sikoa, The Bloodline have recently been opposed by Royce Keys and OTM, now known as 946.

Keys, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price costing Reigns the World Heavyweight Championship would be the best way to make their mark on Raw and give the Mexico City fans a moment they will never forget with Penta finally being crowned.
