Ten Surprising Facts About The Royal Rumble

A Short Day’s Royal Rumble

Along the same lines as MVP’s record is the Rumble record that belongs to Edge. Keeping with the short day’s work theme, Edge holds the record for the shortest time from entrance to winning the Royal Rumble. Entering at number 29 in 2010, he managed to eliminate John Cena to win the match just 7:37 later.

Edge was making his surprise return from Achilles Heel tendon surgery and thus WWE made sure he was not overworked. Funny enough, he could have tied Mr. McMahon’s previously mentioned record of only one elimination en route to winning the match but he picked up a second elimination along the way. C’mon Edge, do you simply can not for meaningless records?

We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Ring

Personally, I always loved it when the ring would fill up with bodies in the Royal Rumble. Having ten guys fighting for leverage always seemed more exciting than when there was a mere five or six guys in there at a time. The 2009 Royal Rumble is the pinnacle of this, as the match holds the record for the most participants in the ring at one time.

When Big Show entered at number 30, he became the 15th active participant in the Rumble. Of course, bodies began flying and men were eliminated but for a time half the field was involved at once. It was an impressive sight and one that we have not seen since.

The Secret Royal Rumble

Hardcore WWE fans can probably list every Royal Rumble since 1988 and who won them. What some may not know is that there have been a small handful of Rumble matches that have taken place at live events and were never aired. At least one was done prior to the first official Rumble as something of a test run, but the one we will highlight took place in 1994.

On January 17, 1994, a Rumble match took place at a live event at Madison Square Garden. It was never mentioned on air but Owen Hart was able to outlast the field to win the match. Nothing was earned from it but Hart did go on to beat his brother Bret at WrestleMania X just a few months later.
