205 Live Review – June 5, 2018: Maintaining Momentum

Mustafa Ali vs. Buddy Murphy

For a show promoted as one that would begin the search for the next number one contender, this was the only match that felt like it accomplished anything. The rubber match between Murphy and Ali had a lot to live up to following not only their first two encounters but also the excellent match Murphy had with Cedric Alexander last week. Fortunately, the pair delivered. Murphy dominated early on, but it was Ali who was the star of this match. His selling was top notch and his comeback had fire. He hit some incredible moves on his stronger opponent, including an absolutely breathtaking Corkscrew Tornado DDT ON THE OUTSIDE!

Unfortunately for Mustafa, as he was setting up for the 054, Hideo Itami ran in and caused a DQ, ending what was another outstanding main event from the cruiserweights.

Result: Mustafa Ali def. Buddy Murphy via DQ

Finish aside, this is definitely a match you have to see. Mustafa Ali is one of the best, most inventive cruiserweights WWE has. His adversary, on the other hand, has been the most consistent and simply outstanding member of the roster. This was another notch on a stellar, slowly building 205 Live resume for Murphy, and Ali’s performance is worth praising. Throw in Itami’s attack of both men and the champion Alexander waiting at the top of the mountain, and this could be an excellent 4-man feud for the belt.

Overall, an incredible main event capped off an otherwise average episode of 205 Live.
