AEW star Jim Ross has shared an update on his upcoming brain surgery, revealing that it is to happen in the next week.
Jim Ross previously revealed that he was set to undergo shunt brain surgery, having also previously passed out at home, leading to an extended hospital stay.
Speaking on Grilling JR, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that the date had been set for brain surgery, with it taking place on August 12, saying:
“My surgery is this Wednesday, in Norman. So, I don’t want to say I’m looking forward to it, but I guess I am, to get to that point and get it over with.
“I’ve never had brain surgery before, so I’m getting… a shunt put into my brain.
“They said I’m only going to be the hospital for the day, which surprised me, but made me happy. I would have guessed longer.”

With Conrad Thompson suggesting we could see Jim Ross back in the near future, the AEW star would be measured in his response, saying “we’ll see.”
Ross has also confirmed that his AEW contract is due to expire this month and shared that, while he doesn’t want to be done, he’d be satisfied with his career if his deal not being renewed.
A fixture on AEW television since signing in April 2019, Ross was a familiar voice on the commentary team and also served as a senior advisor in a backstage capacity.
He parted ways with WWE earlier in 2019, opting to not renew his contract with a company that he first signed with in 1993, rising to the position of Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, being released in 2013.
Ross would return to WWE in 2017 on a two-year deal that would see him return to commentary duties in a limited capacity, which would eventually see him leave the company.
WrestleTalk wishes Jim Ross well in his brain surgery and recovery.
