Backstage Note On Decision To Unify WWE & Universal Titles WWE

A backstage note has emerged on the decision to unify both the WWE and Universal Championships.

Since defeating Brock Lesnar in their Winner Takes All bout at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns has been acknowledged as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

Reigns hasn’t defended his gold since April, and last wrestled at WrestleMania Backlash on May 8.

The Tribal Chief didn’t appear at Hell in a Cell, is also reportedly slated to miss Money in the Bank on July 2.

Following reports that Reigns’ WWE appearances will be sporadic this summer, WrestleVotes have stated that WWE’s intention when unifying the top titles was actually so that Reigns would appear on more shows.

WrestleVotes tweeted:

“According to a source, the creative decision to unity the titles was with the understanding it would allow Roman Reigns to appear on BOTH shows more regularly.”

Reigns will defend his gold against Riddle on Friday’s edition of SmackDown. A new stipulation has been added to the title defense, which you can read more about right here.
