Big E’s Role In The New Level’s AEW All In Debut Revealed

WWE star Big E’s role in Kofi and Austin Creed’s debut as the New Level at AEW All In London has been revealed.

Back in April, it was confirmed that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day had departed WWE.

Kofi and Woods were reportedly offered pay cuts by the company, which Kofi has since confirmed was more than the previously believed 50% pay cut that had been reported.

After officially becoming free agents, Kofi and Austin Creed would debut as the New Level at AEW All In London this past weekend, arriving as the mystery partners of Swerve Strickland in the Trios Royale Roulette.

Kofi Reveals Origins Of  ‘New Level’ Ring Name

New Level entered to the song of the same name by A$AP Ferg, and the pair have now opened up on how the name and song came to be.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Kofi opened up on the origins of the New Level name, and how it stemmed from Austin Creed wanting to use the song as their entrance theme.

Kofi said:

“So Austin had the vision, this is probably a month and a half into the unemployment phase, and he’s like ‘next time we come out, I’ve been listening to A$AP Ferg, I want to come out to New Level’. Sometimes you throw things out into the universe that are so far off, it’s like ‘that’d be great man’ but you don’t actually think it’s gonna happen.

“But like I was saying before about manifestation, we’re talking about it, going back and forth with names, we have a couple that are okay, and then when Austin, he brought up New Level again, he’s like ‘I’m listening to New Level right now’ and I go ‘wait a minute, is that the name? Is that the one’. Then Austin’s wife was in the background like ‘I like it’. Then you start visualising and we knew at that point that was it.

“The thing about it is it’s multi-entendre, we like a double or triple entendre, so the New Level for us is obviously, being gamers, going to AEW, this is like the new level to try and conquer. We are the greatest tag team in the history of planet Earth. We are bringing a new level of tag team wrestling to AEW.

“It’s so multi-faceted, it just felt right.”

Big E Helped Get AEW To License The Song For The New Level

Continuing on specifically about how using the song in AEW came about, Kofi revealed that it was actually a call with Big E that set things in motion, with E also telling Kofi to contact WWE’s Peter Rosenberg, as he knows A$AP Ferg.

He said:

“How we got the actual music was really, really crazy, because when we were starting to negotiate the contracts, this is something that Austin said ‘yeah ask them if we can get New Level as an entrance song’. They’re like ‘Tony said he thinks he can do that, thinks he’s gonna make that work’. We’re like ‘what!? Okay’. So now it’s real.

“Now we got to figure out how do we make this happen? So I think they had contacted Sony, but they were having some trouble getting in touch with them, so we put in some calls. As a matter of fact, we called E, because E is Mr. Hip Hop and Mr. Rap, so we figured he might have a connection to several people in the rap industry. ‘Hey, who should we talk to to try and see if we can get this music?’ He didn’t know A$AP Ferg, he had never met him, but he was like ‘ask Kaz’, who used to be a writer with WWE, and now he does everything under the sun.

“Then he said talk to Peter Rosenberg as well. So we contacted Kaz, then we contacted Rosenberg, and we were talking to him for a little bit, explaining the whole situation to him. He’s like alright, I’m gonna make some calls. He knows Ferg, he’s like ‘I’m gonna call Ferg, I’ll call his manager’, and literally within like 20 minutes he’s like ‘yep they’re down, they’re gonna talk to the right people’.

“He linked up Ferg’s manager with AEW and then we made it happen literally even less than 24 hours before we debuted. So again everything just kinda happening the way it should, it’s a miracle. What started off as a little thought that Austin had on the treadmill listening to music on his workout ended up coming to reality because he put it into the universe.”
