Cedric Alexander has revealed a plan to exercise ‘Option C’ as TNA Wrestling X-Division Champion, after he beats Leon Slater’s reign.
The May 14 episode of Thursday Night Impact saw Cedric Alexander defeat Leon Slater in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match, bringing the young star’s reign to an end at 298 days, leaving him as joint longest reigning X Division champion.
With a record-breaking title reign so close, Slater shared emotional comments after the loss, saying he was “sorry” to those who had followed his journey so far.
During a recent interview with Soundsphere Magazine, Alexander looked at the direction of his own X Division Championship reign, and suggested he may choose Option C, cashing in the title for a World Championship shot, but only when he breaks Slater’s record, saying:
“Would I be interested in Option C? That’s a good question. I’m a little stuck on that.
“As of right now, I’m going to say no. I’m pretty down with the X-Division right now; this is something I want to sink my head into. I want to get the longest reign, the most dominant reign I can possibly get, then we’ll see.
“After I surpass Leon’s record, we’ll take it from there and see how I feel. You know what? Just to be funny, if I do decide to go for Option C, I’m going to wait until I beat Leon’s record by one day. I’m going to beat Leon’s record by one day, and then I’ll cash in Option C, just to be that guy.”

Alexander has previously named Slater, Jason Hotch and WWE’s Je’Von Evans as stars that have made him proud to be a wrestler.
Option C, A Brief History
Introduced in 2012, the Option C clause was introduced when Austin Aries, who won the title at Destination X in July 2011, declared that he wasn’t satisfied with just being X Division Champion. Hulk Hogan, the TNA Wrestling general manager, would offer a resolution, but it would mean that Aries had to vacate the X Division Championship in order to get a World Title opportunity.
Destination X in 2012 would mark the first successful Option C outcome, with Chris Sabin following on at the 2012 Destination X, defeating Bully Ray for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
Three more attempts would be made in the following years, all of which were met with no success
Reborn as the Impact World Championship in 2017, Option C would still be available, although it would be two years later when it would first be invoked.
For Brian Cage, at Homecoming in January 2019, he would be unsuccessful, with Josh Alexander seeing a victory at Bound for Glory in 2021, and Frankie Kazarian being unable to defeat the Walking Weapon at Over Drive the following year.
Since November 2022, there have been no further Option C cash-ins, despite eleven stars holding the X Division Championship.
