WWE star Chad Gable has shared an update on his in-ring future after unmasking and dropping the Original El Grande Americano character.

The Original El Grande Americano faced off against El Grande Americano in a Mask vs Mask match on May 30, at the AAA Noches De Los Grandes event.

With El Grande Americano ultimately victorious, the OG version of the luchador unmasked, revealing the bloody face of Chad Gable.

Ahead of removing his mask, Gable stated that, while he will always be the original, Ludwig Kaiser’s character will now be the only version of El Grande Americano.

While there was some speculation leading up to the match that it would be Gable’s last in AAA, the former WWE Speed Champion has now stated that he plans to return to AAA in the future.

After removing his mask, Gable said:

“Mi nombre es Chad Gable. I was born March 8, 1986 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the United States of America.

“I wrestled in the Olympic Games, in Greco-Roman wrestling, and have been a professional wrestler for 13 years.

“This is my beautiful family, my wife and my three lovely children. Mark my words, I don’t know when, and I don’t know how, but Chad Gable will be back in AAA. ¡Gracias!”

While most of his recent AAA appearances have been as the Original El Grande Americano, Chad Gable has competed for AAA gold without the mask previously, notably challenging El Hijo Del Vikingo for the Mega Championship in the main event of the inaugural AAA X WWE Worlds Collide event in June 2025.

The Mexican crowd chanting Gable’s name following his unmasking showed that the fans now have a lot of respect for “Chad Gable”, so it seems likely that he will return to AAA as a babyface, rather than as the heel version of his character who wanted to take down every luchador.

While many fans want to see Gable hold singles gold on the main roster, AAA may be a good fit for Gable for the time being, with the underdog building appeal in a new territory.
