After years of doubt and questioning from fans regarding the relationship between former AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes and current AEW Executive Vice Presidents The Elite (Matt & Nick Jackson & Kenny Omega), Rhodes himself has provided an answer.
Speaking on the red carpet for his soon to be released Peacock documentary ‘American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes’, Cody was asked by Fightful Select what his current friendship, or lack therof, with The Elite was.
To which Cody replied “without hesitation” that he still talks to the Bucks fairly regularly, revealing that footage from Being The Elite was available for use in the documentary solely due to Matt and Nick Jackson giving the okay for it.
Cody also continued to say that he would share a bond with the Bucks and Omega forever, whether they share a ring together again or not, due to what they accomplished together in creating AEW.
Questions surrounding Cody’s relationship with The Elite did not just begin when Cody left AEW to go back to WWE, as before that, fans had already noticed Cody’s lack of appearances on the BTE YouTube show.
As well as this, it became noticeable that all four men were rarely involved in on-screen angles with each other, with Cody often seeming on his own island to everything else happening with the other Elite members on TV.
However, despite their relationship not seeming as close to the public, their have been signs of the opposite on occasion, including Cody Rhodes’ homage to The Elite after winning the 2023 Royal Rumble.
So, now with Cody’s latest comments it seems we now have an answer, but the question remains whether The Elite will remain a part of AEW and agree new contracts with the company in the near future.
The latest update revealed that new terms had not been agreed between AEW and The Elite, so perhaps a reunion with Cody in WWE could be a possibility, with WWE holding interest if Omega, the Bucks and Hangman Page all become available.
As for Cody’s immediate future, he will officially wrap up his trilogy of matches with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, however, there seems to have been a change made to the match – click here for more details.
