Surprising Drew McIntyre WWE Contract Update Despite CM Punk Feud Setup WWE

With CM Punk suffering a legitimate injury at WWE Royal Rumble, Drew McIntyre was set up as an opponent upon his return.

That return, as Punk explained, won’t be taking place at WrestleMania 40 in April, as revealed by the man himself on the January 29 episode of WWE Raw.

During the opening of last night’s WWE Raw, Drew McIntyre revealed that he had ‘prayed’ for the injury to happen, feeling proud that he had ‘exorcised the demon’ from the locker room.

With the pair likely to square off in the future, Dave Meltzer has shed light on a wrinkle in the plans on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:

“I would say September is a reasonable return (for Punk). Which was interesting, really interesting, because they set up the big angle with Drew McIntyre tonight to be his opponent when he returns, and Drew McIntyre’s not under contract past April. And that has not changed. Which really surprised me.”

It had previously been reported that McIntyre hadn’t signed a new contract, with his current deal due to expire after WrestleMania.

It was originally set to end at the start of 2024, but the time added on due to absences last year carries it to just past WrestleMania in early April.

Per that report, it was noted that under Endeavor, WWE has been handling contract negotiations in the order they were due to expire, although it wasn’t specifically mentioned where exactly Drew McIntyre is on that list.

WWE have released the full CM Punk segment from last night’s Raw on YouTube and it can be seen below this news story.

The segment includes Drew McIntyre making his feelings about Punk clear before he attacked the injured star, focusing on his arm.
