Former WWE star Nic Nemeth has revealed what he wants fans to take home from his NJPW in-ring debut against David Finlay.
On September 21, 2023, WWE released a litany of stars from the roster. The biggest name from these round of cuts was former World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler.
Since the end of his 90-day non compete clause, Ziggler, now known by his real name Nic Nemeth, has hit the ground running by debuting for NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 18 and for TNA at Hard To Kill 2024.
Ahead of his in-ring debut for the company, Nemeth spoke with the NJPW website to discuss his first match for the promotion. On what he wants fans to take home from his debut, Nemeth said:
“The biggest thing for me is proving what I’ve been saying for the last 20 years. I’ve been saying ‘hey man, I’m the best, try to follow me, you can’t.’”
“But I did that in one world. Now I have the chance to do the same thing, but have the world see me do it somewhere else. This isn’t ‘hey there’s Nic Nemeth, he used to be in WWE, wave for him when he comes out.’”
“This is someone who has an even bigger chip on his shoulder than he had, because I know I’m starting at day one, right now.”
“And if I don’t put in a good enough effort, or have enough gas in the tank to take that title, then i show everyone that I’m all talk.”
“I have to show everybody that I talk the talk, and I can back it up and walk the walk. I want fans in Sapporo that not only is David Finlay a hell of a fighter, but Nic Nemeth might be the future of New Japan,”
Nic Nemeth will challenge David Finlay for the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship on February 23 at NJPW The New Beginning in Sapporo.
Nemeth also revealed that he asked for his WWE release multiple times elsewhere in the interview, which you can read at this link.
