A top WWE star has discussed potentially breaking a long standing record.
GUNTHER defeated Ricochet to win the Intercontinental Champion on the June 10, 2022 episode of WWE SmackDown. Since then, he has defeated the likes of Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, Shinsuke Nakamura and Rey Mysterio throughout the past 371 days.
After making it to over one year as champion with no end in sight, many fans are wondering if the Imperium leader may be closing in on surpassing The Honky Tonk Man’s long standing record as IC Champion.
For 454 days, the WWE legend held the title until being defeated by The Ultimate Warrior at the first SummerSlam in 1988.
Speaking with Rick Ucchino on Cincy 3:60, GUNTHER was asked to describe what breaking Honky Tonk Man’s record would mean to him. He answered:
“It would be, obviously, a great accomplishment and maybe the biggest accomplishment of my career, to that date. But also, there’s still some time to go, and I try to focus on what’s right in front of me and make the best out of that situation.”
“I don’t try to get caught up in the future with what ifs and what could happen, even though it’s not that far away.”
“I think once it’s all said and done, I’ll be able to lean back and enjoy it a little bit. It would be very rewarding and a big accomplishment.”
GUNTHER along with the rest of Imperium were drafted to Monday Night Raw in the WWE Draft last month. Since then, he has embroiled in a feud with Matt Riddle as well as Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
As previously reported, “The Ring General” recently discussed the possibility of more members joining his Imperium faction.
