After Aleister Black retained his NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, it was widely reported that Lars Sullivan suffered a broken jaw. Or so we thought. Now, WrestleZone.com and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter are reporting that the injury is purely for storyline purposes and Sullivan is perfectly fine.
In a statement released by Dave Meltzer’s vehicle:
“The Lars Sullivan broken jaw that was reported is actually storyline. My guess is that they wanted to tell the story that he was so tough he broke his jaw early in the match with Aleister Black, kept going, and that’s an excuse for losing to protect the mystique, since it was his first loss since they started pushing him. They are keeping him off shows for a while to sell the injury as legit.”
Should this be correct, and WrestleTalk has no reason to doubt the legitimacy of this claim, then it was such a convincing portrayal that it had the majority fooled. The question now is what comes next for the wrecking machine once he returns to NXT television.
Should Aleister Black retain the strap at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV against Tomasso Ciampa, surely another chapter in that feud is out of the question? They can’t keep making excuses as to why Sullivan is losing big matches. There has been much talk of putting the colossus with Paul Ellering which could only do his career wonders.
Tell us what you think about this latest WWE swerve, whether or not you were fooled by the injury, and what you would do with Lars Sullivan when he returns. You can talk to all your favorite scribes on Twitter and Discord today.
