Kairi Sane has sent a heartfelt message to her fans following her WWE release yesterday (April 24).
In what has unfortunately become a regular occurrence in WWE post WrestleMania, 24 talent departures were confirmed to have taken place on Friday, April 24.
Along with the entire Wyatt Sicks (Bo Dallas/Uncle Howdy, Nikki Cross, Dexter Lumis, Joe Gacy & Erick Rowan), Aleister Black and Zelina, one of the most surprising names to be let go by WWE was multi-time former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Kairi Sane.
While Sane’s talents alone made her release come out of left field, she has also been the focal point of the ongoing feud between Asuka and IYO SKY, with SKY attempting to motivate Sane to stand up for herself after months of abusive behavior from her Kabuki Warriors tag team partner.
Sadly fans will not see a satisfying payoff to the angle, nor the much teased Kairi Sane babyface turn, as her second stint in WWE has now been cut short.
With comments pouring in across social media in support of the Japanese star, including WWE’s YouTube uploads of the highlights from yesterday’s episode of SmackDown, Sane has now taken to Twitter to send a message to her supporters.
She wrote:
I’m truly grateful to have people like you by my side.
Thank you for always being with me.
I’ll set sail… in my own time
Until then…
I love you
Former WWE star Charlie (fka Dakota Kai), who both previously teamed with Sane as a part of Damage CTRL, and was also released from her WWE contract in May 2025, commented on the post, writing:
Love you so much you’re so special to so many people
How Will WWE Handle IYO SKY vs. Asuka Without Kairi Sane?
While they were at one time reportedly planned to face off at WWE WrestleMania 42, the status of IYO SKY and Asuka’s much discussed singles match remains up in the air.
WWE Backlash 2026 will be here in just two weeks time, and given that the match has already been built up there’s certainly a strong possibility that we see it take place there.
Without Kairi Sane, who, again, was the entire reason SKY and Asuka are feuding in the first place, the conclusion to the feud is certainly not going to feel the same for many fans.
It remains to be seen if and how WWE write Sane out of the angle as well. Will it be a similar situation to when WWE didn’t renew Carlito’s contract and he simply vanished from The Judgment Day clubhouse without mention? Or will Asuka say she herself banished her former tag team partner from WWE due to her perceived incompetency?
Both options likely wouldn’t go down too well, and WWE could face a bit of backlash from the crowd next time we see IYO and Asuka lock up.
