The G1 Climax has started with a bang and the main event of Night 2 received Meltzer’s prize rating. In a rematch of last year’s tournament finals, Kenny Omega and Tetsuya Naito put on the best match of the tournament thus far. While their match last year was far more dangerous, this was smartly wrestled with minimal long-lasting damage done to either competitor. That is not to say that there were no scary bumps, as the two Omega piledrivers were jaw-dropping, but nothing came close to the danger of the DDT on the ring post from last year. This was the perfect way to start B Block’s run and Meltzer has called it one of the best matches in G1 Climax history.
So far Kenny Omega has had a hell of a G1 Climax. His first match received 5 Stars, and so he followed it up with another when he wrestled Hirooki Goto on Night 4. Some of the spots in this match were mind boggling. Goto throwing a chair into Omega’s face as he balanced on the top rope about to hit a springboard plancha was a thing of perfection. With moonsaults and code reds this match had a lot going for it and they did enough to receive the third 5-star rating of the week.

Whether you agree with every rating or not, it is undoubtedly a good time to be a wrestling fan if you enjoy the in-ring work of the best workers in the world.
