Real Reason Current WWE Star Turned Down AEW

Mickie James has commented on her husband Nick Aldis signing with WWE, stating that there was previously an opportunity for him to join another notable promotion.

While Aldis has been working as a WWE backstage producer since August, the former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion made his WWE TV debut on the October 13 edition of SmackDown, during which he was named the SmackDown general manager.

Speaking with TV Insider, Mickie James noted that Aldis previously had the chance to sign with AEW, but ultimately didn’t.

Noting that at that time, Aldis didn’t want to be on the road full-time while she was also on the road with WWE, James wrote:

It’s really interesting when I was back at WWE there was an opportunity for Nick to go to AEW. He turned it down because it was too much on our family for him to be on the road full-time along with me.

Our son Donovan was three or four. I think about it now, and it has shifted. Nick has deserved this opportunity for a long time. A lot of people don’t realize he has been at this for almost 20 years I’d say …The way our careers have gone.

It’s weird not really being in the same place for long, but I think it’s by design. We have to do our best for our son first. That means someone has to have a lighter schedule.

Business picked up for the Aldis family. In the wrestling world, if people don’t know who Nick Aldis is, they will. He is an incredible talent.

 Aldis wrestled a major match at the All In 2018 event, dropping his NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title to Cody Rhodes.

This All In event is generally considered a pre-cursor to AEW, with the promotion officially announced four months later in January 2019.
