Paul Heyman has addressed Brock Lesnar’s apparent retirement at WrestleMania 42, stating that he didn’t know that was going to happen.

The opening match of WrestleMania 42 Night Two saw Oba Femi pin Brock Lesnar after just under five minutes of action.

Following the match, Brock Lesnar took his boots and gloves off, shared an emotional moment with Paul Heyman in the ring, before leaving up the ramp with Heyman.

Speaking with TMZ, Paul Heyman stated that he didn’t know that this was going to happen, stating:

“No. If I knew he was going to retire, would I have gone on record saying he’s going to dominate for the next 15 years?

I was crying, am I that good of an actor that I can cry on cue? Not I.

Heyman referenced a previous interview recorded during WrestleMania 42 week ahead of the Show of Shows, during which he had dismissed Brock Lesnar retirement rumors, stating he expected another 15 years of dominance from Brock Lesnar.

When asked in the new interview what the conversation was like after the segment during the recent, Heyman stated that they should ask him what the conversation was like in the ring.

When he was asked this, he responded:

“None of your business. It was between me and Brock Lesnar, why would you ask such a question?”

When asked what’s next, Paul Heyman stated:

“What’s next? Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Bronson Reed, Austin Theory, the Vision taking over WWE.

“The Wise Man cometh, I’m still around. After 40 years, I always have a finger on the pulse of what’s coming next.”

If Brock Lesnar does stay retired, it will be a rare case of a WWE star not having their final match telegraphed, following John Cena and Goldberg having advertised last matches in 2025, and AJ Styles losing to GUNTHER in January in a match where it was stated that he would retire if he lost.

This somewhat unceremonious retirement is what has led to skepticism surrounding Brock Lesnar’s true status.

While it was previously reported that some in WWE believe that Lesnar hasn’t officially retired, Lesnar has now officially been moved to the Alumni section of the WWE roster page.
