WWE
A “pretty majorly pushed” WWE star allegedly agreed to a 50% pay cut amid the recent releases and departures from the company.
In addition to the over 20 names that emerged a week prior, news broke this past weekend that New Day had parted ways with WWE.
Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, who had been with WWE since 2006 and 2010 respectively, were reportedly asked to take pay cuts and refused to do so, instead opting to leave WWE entirely.
Now, it’s emerged that the multi-time Tag Team Champions weren’t the only ones who have been asked to “restructure” their contracts for less pay.
PWInsider reports that it was told the day before the news emerged about New Day that a “pretty majorly pushed” WWE talent had been asked to take a 50% pay cut, and allegedly actually agreed to that deal.
The talent wasn’t identified as PWInsider wasn’t able to get it confirmed officially.
In a follow-up, the Wrestling Observer reports that they also heard this is “believed to be the case,” with the talent not being a “tippy top person.”
It was noted that there have been some raises recently as well as people being asked to take cuts, and none of the “top people” have been asked to take cuts.
A ‘New Day’ In WWE
Ironically, the departure of New Day from WWE is significant of what is now truly a “new day” in WWE.
It’s clear that Endeavor is operating in a way to maximize profits with very little focus and emphasis on loyalty to pretty much anyone.
We saw that philosophy play out on TV in the lead-up to WrestleMania, and now it’s having a big impact behind the scenes as well.
As far as who’s to blame for the roster cuts, some people seem confused about whether it’s Triple H or the corporate management in WWE parent company Endeavor.
The reality is, Endeavor doesn’t direct Triple H on specifics as to who to release, but they will be giving him budgetary restrictions or even just talent number restrictions and he then has to decide who to cut to get to those numbers.

Santos Escobar was reportedly signed to a surprisingly big money deal a few months ago, only to be released by WWE last week
Endeavor will say to Triple H “cut X million dollars of talent pay” or “cut X number of talents” – it’s then up to HHH, potentially with input from WWE President Nick Khan as well, to decide which talents are released to get to those numbers.
So, he is simply doing what his bosses are telling him to do, but at the same time, he does have the decision as to the specific people who get released within the realm of what’s been instructed of him.
Historically, WWE has gone through phases of trying to maximise profits but then aggressively signing as many people as possible to big money deals, then going back to profits, and so on.
It’ll be interested to see if that cycle continues to happen or if it’s just going to be a one way street from now on.
