There is reportedly a belief within WWE that there is a ‘better than 50% chance’ Kairi Sane appears at this Saturday’s WWE Backlash event.
WWE held it’s latest round of talent releases back on April 24, with 25 names confirmed to have departed the company.
Among the most shocking names listed was Kairi Sane, who was in the middle of a long standing storyline with IYO SKY and Asuka on Monday Night Raw.
Since her departure, there has been a lot of backlash from fans who wanted to see the story reach it’s natural conclusion.
Kairi Sane To Show Up At WWE Backlash?
IYO SKY and Asuka are currently set for a singles match at WWE Backlash in Tampa this Saturday, and there has now been an update on the potential of Kairi appearing during the match.
Per Bryan Alvarez in the Wrestling Observer, there is a belief within the company that there is a ‘better than 50% chance’ Kairi shows up on the show.
He wrote:
“Within WWE, it’s felt there is a better than 50% chance that Kairi shows up at Backlash to at least finish off that storyline.”
Asuka and IYO’s segment on last week’s WWE Raw was met with chants of ‘We Want Kairi’ from the live crowd, which was later edited out of WWE’s upload of the segment to social media.
Fan Backlash Leading To More WWE Storyline Changes?
Over the years, loud backlash from the WWE fanbase has led the company to change some major storyline plans, with the most notable being Daniel Bryan and the Yes Movement ahead of WrestleMania 30 back in 2014.
10 years later, backlash from The Rock’s return to take Cody Rhodes’ spot at WrestleMania 40 also led to a major change to that year’s WrestleMania main event, with Rock turning heel and giving us the much adored ‘Final Boss’ character, and allowing Cody Rhodes to finish his story as planned.
Last year, R-Truth announced on social media that his contract with the company was not being renewed, which led to major backlash from both fans and talent, with Truth returning to the company just 8 days later after chants of ‘We Want Truth’ echoed around Raw, SmackDown and NXT that week.
WWE listening to fan backlash and changing course is ultimately a good thing, as it’s important to keep fan morale up, especially at a time when the corporate side of the company has led to a lot of fans being turned off.
