Real Reason AJ Lee Returned To WWE WWE

AJ Lee has opened up about her decision to return to WWE following an over 10 year absence from the company.

AJ will have her first match since March 2015 this Saturday when she teams with husband CM Punk against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins.

The three-time WWE Divas Champion was interviewed by ESPN ahead of the match and commented on what ultimately led to her returning.

AJ said it had been something on the table since Punk’s return in November 2023, but she wasn’t seriously considering it until she started doing Comic Cons and realized how many fans she still has.

She said:

“Over the past couple of years since my husband’s been back, it’s sort of been in the air as an option. Wasn’t super considering it until I srarted to get back on the Comic Con circuit.

“I wrote my first original graphic novel and started to do signings, and I realized that there were so many fans still out there who were so loyal and kind, and have been with me for decade.

“To go to a Comic Con and have like a seven-hour line of people, I realized, oh, I owe them a little something. So I would like to sort of give them something in return

“And this opportunity, being a new event with ESPN, that was interesting. Like, that was a new mountain to climb. That’s not just jumping back into the fold, that’s starting to build something brand new, and that’s exciting. I like a challenge.”

“Becky is very interesting to me. I think that she’s wonderful in the ring and we have a lot of similarities.

“And she would not be an easy person to get back in the ring with. So that was exciting.”
