Paul Wight has confirmed that he recently signed a new deal with AEW, commenting on his future with the company.

It was reported in May that Paul Wight – fka Big Show in WWE – had agreed to a new contract with AEW, ahead of his previous deal expiring.

Wight confirmed this during an interview with Joey Franchize, where he shared a thank you message for Tony Khan.

Responding to Franchize’s congratulations, Wight said:

“Let’s thank Tony Khan because Tony Khan still sees something in me. I’m grateful for that. It helps when your boss likes you, it kinda helps.

“He’s one of those bosses that understands what you’ve been through, and your vision. He’s like ‘Yeah, we’re going to make this happen. I want to see this happen, too.’ So you’re like ‘Yeah, that’s good.’

“But I’m very grateful, I’m very happy and that’s why I’m here to kick butt.”

Paul Wight has been used by the company in less physical roles more recently, having not wrestled in over two years.

His most recent AEW in-ring outing saw him team with Kenny Omega, Chris Jericho and Kota Ibushi to defeat Brian Cage, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher and Powerhouse Hobbs in a Street Fight on the November 14, 2023 Dynamite episode.

He last wrestled during the 2024 Jericho Cruise, teaming with Jericho and Mike Bailey against Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs and Lance Archer that January, days before his knee surgery.

Paul Wight previously stated his intention to return to the ring, recently noting that he knows he won’t be competing for championships upon his wrestling return.

He also expressed interest in wrestling Kenny Omega and Darby Allin before he retires.

With Wight being one of wrestling’s most recognisable stars, it would be great to see him end his in-ring career on his own terms.
