WWE Main Roster Star Addresses Not Defending Championship On TV For Over 100 Days

WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan has addressed her lack of title defenses, ahead of her championship match at SummerSlam.

Liv Morgan’s third (including the SmackDown Women’s Title lineage) Women’s World Championship reign started at WrestleMania 42, with the Royal Rumble winner defeating Stephanie Vaquer for the gold on April 18.

In the 119 days since then, Morgan hasn’t had a single televised championship match, with the only times she put the title on the line being at the June 21 and 24 house shows in Birmingham, England and Sheffield, England respectively.

Liv Morgan commented on this in CJ Perry’s recent Instagram reel, during which the former “Lana” held Liv Morgan’s belt backstage.

Referencing her lack of title defenses, Morgan said:

“Zero days defending, because I’m that iconic you don’t need to defend s**t”

Liv Morgan has wrestled six matches in total since winning the Women’s World Championship, two being the aforementioned house show outings, and the other four being televised appearances.

Three of these televised matches were part of the Queen of the Ring tournament, with the champion defeating Alexa Bliss, Chelsea Green and Becky Lynch in the first round on June 8, and besting Charlotte Flair on June 19 during their semifinal.

Morgan came up short against IYO SKY in the Queen of the Ring final at Night of Champions on June 27.

SKY is using her tournament victory to challenge for Liv Morgan’s Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam, with the match being confirmed for night one.

Liv Morgan is the second world champion in WWE’s women’s division to go over 100 days without a title defense this year, with Jade Cargill’s first defense as WWE Women’s Champion coming on February 13, 104 days after winning the gold at Saturday Night’s Main Event the previous November.

With WWE having possibly its greatest ever women’s roster, many fans have called for the company to give more of a spotlight to this division.

With Liv Morgan having a prominent title defense on SummerSlam Saturday, and a new interim WWE Women’s Champion to be crowned in a ladder match on the Sunday, we could see new chapters commence for both the Raw and SmackDown women’s rosters this weekend.
