A WWE star made their return to NXT to kick off tonight’s show, cutting a fiery promo on an ’embarrassing’ last two years of their career.
Back in April, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day officially left WWE after the two men were asked to take paycuts by the company, which both rejected.
At the time of their departure, New Day were aligned with Grayson Waller on WWE television, but with New Day leaving, Waller has barely been seen on television since.
Grayson Waller Returns To NXT
Grayson Waller would make his return to NXT to kick off tonight’s show, and he didn’t hold back his feelings on the lay of the land in his promo.
Waller referred to the last two years of his main roster career as an ’embarrassment’, taking shots at both Austin Theory and his time in the New Day.
He then said that he returned to NXT so he could finally win the NXT Championship, as the men’s roster in NXT is ‘soft’ and the top spot is ready for taking.
Waller would also say that the women of NXT are ‘running laps’ around the men’s roster, and that of the 10% of the roster that is ready for a call up, all of them are women.
The Depth Of NXT’s Women’s Division: A Blessing And A Curse
As women’s wrestling continues to evolve throughout the entire industry, and calls being made by many fans for the talented women around the world to get spotlighted more often, NXT is often praised as arguably the best booked women’s division in North America.
Even with the recent major losses to the main roster, and the seemingly impending call ups of Lola Vice and Tatum Paxley, the NXT women’s division still has so much depth to keep it thriving for a long time.
New arrivals such as Lizzy Rain and Reina Volcan seem destined for success on the brand, with Kendal Grey’s almost instant rise also opening the door for other Evolve standouts like Layla Diggs and Kali Armstrong to make an immediate impact.
However, the depth of the division can also be a curse at times, as with so many talented women on the roster, several names aren’t getting the spotlight they should.
The influx of depth also leads to names like Kelani Jordan, Jaida Parker and Thea Hail, who have spent several years in NXT to the point it feels like they are long overdue for a call up to the main roster.
