AEW’s Paul Wight has shared an update on how he’s preparing for his eventual wrestling return, after over two years away from the ring.

Wight last wrestled for AEW in an eight-man Street Fight on the November 14, 2023 Dynamite episode, ahead of his most recent match, which saw him team with Chris Jericho and Mike Bailey against Kyle Fletcher, Powerhouse Hobbs and Lance Archer during the January 2024 Jericho Cruise.

With Wight previously stating that he intends to wrestle again, the former WWE star has now revealed what he is working on ahead of stepping back into the ring.

Speaking with Joey Franchize, Wight noted that he has been conditioning and training to rebuild the mind-muscle connection, and strengthen a number of stabilizer muscles damaged during previous surgeries.

Commenting on his plans for the future, Paul Wight stated:

“We haven’t been in the ring, but we’ve been conditioning and training, pushing sleds and pulling sleds, doing all this stuff to get everything working again.

“I’ve had 11 surgeries in seven years, so a lot of different stabilizer muscles, especially on my left hip, got cut so many times. I’m trying to rebuild that mind muscle connection.

“There’s a lot of balance and things I’m working on, and getting that stuff better so I can get in the ring and play. I haven’t gone through all this just to look pretty when I’m older, I have a plan. I have stuff I want to do.

“I want to do more wrestling, do more films and TV. I want to do stuff, I don’t want to sit on my butt and talk about how great I am. Let’s get going.”

Wight also confirmed that he recently signed a new contract with AEW, following reports in May indicating that he had put pen to paper for a new deal.

Kenny Omega and Darby Allin were two names Paul Wight previously stated that he wants to wrestle before he steps away from the ring for good.

With Wight also previously noting that he doesn’t believe he’ll be challenging for titles upon his return, it will be interesting to see his post-comeback direction, in this latter stage of his in-ring career.
