Following some expectedly controversial outside interference from Rhea Ripley, Dominik Mysterio was able to walk out of NXT Great American Bash 2023 still the North American Champion.
Staving off both Mustafa Ali and former champion Wes Lee’s best efforts, ‘Dirty’ Dom ensured the Judgment Day’s recent domination continued, but the questionable methods employed to secure the win were less befitting of a Mysterio and more Dominik’s ‘real family’ (according to him), the Guerreros.
In acknowledgment of this, Ripley posted to Twitter following Dom’s title defence, paying homage to the legendary tactics of the late Eddie Guerrero.
Ripley tweeted:
We Lie. We Cheat. We Steal. #NXTGAB
While the tactics employed would certainly make Eddie proud, and if Dom isn’t outright telling the world who he wishes was his real father, his homage’s for the Hall of Famer that are evident throughout his hairstyle, gear and move-set make it abundantly clear.
With Dom’s task complete, focus will now shift to his fellow Judgment Day members who look to secure massive wins of their own at SummerSlam on August 5.
Women’s World Champion Ripley is expected to defend her championship against Raquel Rodriguez, although that match hasn’t been made official yet.
Finn Balor, meanwhile, looks poised to earn himself some revenge seven years in the making as he challenges World Heavyweight Champion Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins.
Señor Money in the Bank Damian Priest could potentially spoil Finn’s night if he cashes in – either way, the faction looks set to have a statement making night in Detroit.
