Rhea Ripley Wins WWE Women’s Championship At WrestleMania 42, IYO SKY With The Assist WWE

Rhea Ripley has won the WWE Women’s Championship from Jade Cargill at WrestleMania 42, with an assist from IYO SKY.

During the match, Cargill’s allies Michin and B-Fab came out to help her, and were looking successful in doing so.

However, Ripley’s own friend IYO SKY came out to take out Michin and B-Fab, which distracted Cargill and allowed Ripley to score the win.

Rhea Ripley To ‘Carve Out New Path’ As WWE Women’s Champion

The pair of powerhouse performers delivered a women’s roster-defining match, demonstrating the type of raw aggression that was the perfect payoff to weeks of attacks, verbal and otherwise. This wasn’t just “sports entertainment”; this was Ripley and Cargill demonstrating why the women’s roster deserves the WrestleMania spotlight that they’ve had since the start of the Women’s Evolution, despite not being in the coveted main event spot of either night.

A two-time Women’s Tag Team Champion, alongside Bianca Belair (who announced her pregnancy on Night 1 of WrestleMania 42), the WWE Women’s Championship was the first singles title that Cargill held since signing with WWE in late 2023, and surely an indication of the direction her career is taking when it comes to future opportunities.

For Ripley, herself a WWE Grand Slam Champion, this marks the first singles title held by the star since March of last year, when she lost the Women’s World Championship to the aforementioned IYO SKY. A dominant force in WWE, Ripley’s strengths have seen her hold multiple titles, but it’s arguably her time in Judgment Day that has left the longest-lasting impression on fans.

With a championship back in Ripley’s hands, this should provide the type of shift at the top of the tree that fans deserve. Moreover, it should give new purpose to Ripley to carve out a new path on television.

It’s unlikely that Cargill is going to take kindly to losing her championship, although it remains to be seen how she will respond and who may get in the way as she no doubt seeks a rematch against Ripley.
