Last night in the Dallas, TX was Ring of Honor’s State of the Art event. On top of ‘Hurricane Helms making his ROH debut, the main event was a Proving Ground Six-Man Mayhem Instant Reward match. That was a mouthful; brevity is obviously not a necessity in naming.
The match saw Cheeseburger, Punishment Martinez, Jonathan Gresham, Scorpio Sky, and Adam Page trying to pin current ROH World TV Champion, and Tom Selleck look-alike, Silas Young. Should any man pin the champ, they would receive a title match immediately. It’s like MITB except you get instant gratification. However, if Young were to pin one of the other wrestlers, then that man could not challenge for the title for a year.
Martinez fought through the odds and pinned Young. Then, Punishment continued for Silas as the title match came immediately after. Martinez hit his South of Heaven (sit-down chokeslam) and pinned Young again. This is Martinez’s first title run in ROH since joining the company in 2015.
