Current NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes has made numerous appearances on the WWE main roster in recent weeks amid the ongoing push to elevate the NXT brand.
Hayes competed against Finn Balor on Raw, as well as appearing in a backstage segment with Bobby Lashley on last week’s episode of SmackDown.
The recent appearances of Hayes on Raw and SmackDown has led to speculation about a potential NXT call up for him after SummerSlam.
Speaking on the media call ahead of NXT Great American Bash this weekend, Shawn Michaels discussed a potential call up for Hayes.
Shawn admitted that Hayes is looking forward to getting his main roster call-up, but noted that he shouldn’t get ahead of himself.
Shawn added that he wants Hayes to take things one show at a time, as it is about preparing him to be a flag-bearer on the main roster.
Hayes is set to defend the NXT Championship against Ilja Dragunov at NXT Great American Bash this Sunday.
During the call, Shawn also confirmed the date and location of NXT’s next premium live event, which you can find here.
